Dear Joe Bowler,
I am confused. On our mixed league,
individual and team pre-bowling is allowed. However, when we
showed up to bowl our regular league night. The individual who
was going to do an individual pre-bowl got a sub. Needless to
say, the sub bowled out of his tree. Is this legal??
Seems like if the regular bowler wasn't able to do his pre-bowl, he
would have just did it on another night.

Dear Stand Up - Thanks for sending in the
first question in a while. It would depend on what the league
had in their bylaws pertaining to individual pre and post bowling.
If there is no rule prohibiting subs for individual pre-bowling,
then the scores have to be accepted as bowled. The league, if
they don't want to accept individual pre-bowls, has to stipulate it
in their bylaws. Easiest way is to only allow pre and post
bowling as a team!! Hope this helps. - JoeB.

Dear Joe Bowler,
It seems that our Association tries different
ideas to get more bowlers to come out and bowl in our Annual
Championship Tournament. What can be done to help increase
participation? We do gift cards drawings and usually extend
entry deadlines to accomodate those who just can't seem to get their
entries in on time. What else can we do?

Shoe Up and Show Up!!
Dear Shoe - This has plagued bowling
associations since the beginning of time. Not that I've been
around that long, but getting folks to part with their money to bowl
tournaments is perplexing indeed. There are a lot of things you can
try - change number of members for a team, add scratch divisions,
get a sponsor for the tournament to help increase the payout, change
the handicap, etc. etc. Bottom line is, ask the bowlers
themselves why they aren't bowling in the tournament.
Hopefully, they will have some legitimate reasons. If so, take
them to heart and try them out the following year. Good Luck! Hope this helps. - JoeB.
